Utrecht, 21 June 2007 - In the presence of an invited audience, yesterday Councillor Van Schaik of the Municipality of Terneuzen gave the go-ahead for the construction of the Koegorspolder wind farm. The first wind turbine will be connected to the electricity grid at the end of September and at the end of 2007 the park will be completely operational.

Largest onshore wind park in the Netherlands
With a generation capacity of 44 MW, the park is the largest onshore wind farm to be built in the Netherlands so far, both in terms of capacity and physical size. The 22 V80 2.0 MW turbines are being installed south of Terneuzen. It is expected that the park will deliver 120 million kWh, enough to provide 35,000 homes with sustainable energy.

Involving local companies
As well as making a major contribution to achieving the Dutch CO2 reduction targets for the industry and energy sector under the Kyoto protocol, the project also provides a powerful stimulus to the local economy. All civil, structural, infrastructural and electro-technical activities are being carried out by local companies. The preparations and construction provide employment for approximately 50 people.

Educational programme
Evelop has set up an educational programme for the top classes of the primary schools in the area. The participating schools will receive a curriculum with information about the wind park and wind energy in general. In this way Evelop intends to make children aware of sustainable energy, and to involve them in related activities in the area.
