Excellent performance Prinses Amaliawindpark

Rotterdam, 9 December 2009 - In the month November the Princess Amalia wind farm, off the coast of IJmuiden, achieved a record performance. The largest Dutch offshore wind farm produced more power in this month than in all previous months since its existence. These high production rates are due to the mix of favorable wind speeds and a very high availability of the wind farm. The 60 wind turbines of the Princess Amaliawindpark were 98.5% of the month available for production. This percentage is far above the norm. On November 19th, the park operated almost 24 hours at full power. This is very rare. The high production rate provided 200,000 households in November of renewable energy. Eneco is a major shareholder in the wind farm and is responsible for operational management. q7-overview269x-67.jpg

The operational management team of the Princess Amaliawindpark is very pleased with the performance. Compliments are appropriate for the contractors who have made this possible together with us. The offshore wind industry is developing rapidly and shows that it can achieve excellent performances.

This record performance indicates that offshore wind contributes in a reliable and important way to the transition towards a sustainable economy. The next few months, the Dutch government and several utility companies will take important steps to add a maximum of 950MW to the existing Dutch offshore renewable energy production capacity of 200MW. The new wind farms to be developed will have to supply 1 million households with sufficient renewable energy. Eneco is involved in this bidding process with 4 locations. The experience we gained with the Princess Amaliawindpark provides Eneco the knowledge and expertise to be competitive in this process. Besides that, Eneco is also active in offshore wind in Belgium.
