Wind In My Back Yard

Are you a local authority with sustainability ambitions who wants the local community to be involved in the implementation of your policy? Or are you a resident living nearby a wind project and do you want to invest in the local wind farm? Evelop offers participation schemes that enable you to share in the returns of the wind farm. This model is called Wind In My Back Yard (WIMBY).

Besides participation programs, we develop educational programs for children at the local schools.

How does WIMBY work?

  • In cooperation with the local authority we develop, finance and construct the wind farm in the community;
  • Once the construction of the wind farm is completed, we accommodate residents living nearby the wind farm to participate in the project with private loans at a fixed interest-bond;
  • This way you can participate for a period of 5 to 7 years. Since the technical lifecycle of a wind farm is 20 years, the bond may be renewed after the first participation period.

7 reasons to invest in a wind farm:

  1. You can use energy produced by your own wind farm, at an attractive rate
  2. You receive a good financial return on your investment
  3. You invest in operating wind turbines only
  4. We only work with reputable financial partners, experienced in wind energy projects
  5. You benefit from optimal wind farm operation, because of our advanced, constant monitoring and production management
  6. As a participant in a sustainable energy project you may qualify for fiscal benefits
  7. Investing in a wind farm contributes to the production of more sustainable energy, to the reduction of CO2 and a better environment for future generations.

The Wind In My Back Yard (WIMBY) model was implemented in the ‘Burgervlotbrug’ project. Local residents participated in the operation of the wind turbines we developed by investing in a fixed-interest bond. The scheme proved to be highly successful and popular with the local residents to the extent that applications exceeded the available subscription amount.
We will also be implementing similar participation schemes for our other projects, including the project in Heerhugowaard.

Project Developer Wind turbines are mighty powerful machines. One hour of rotating can supply an entire household with electricity for a whole year. And we make it happen.
